Arboretum List
This list details all species currently grown and those previously trialled within the arboretum since plantings began in 1993. The arboretum is located within a subtropical climate 10 km from the coast, between 40-80m asl, positioned in a northern aspect within the Tweed area of far north-eastern NSW being on the south-eastern rim of the Mount Warning Shield Volcano. The coldest temperature recorded since the beginning of 1995 was 0.9◦C and the hottest 44◦C. Rainfall averages at 1800mm (70.9”) per year with heavy rain in late Summer and Autumn. The maximum annual rainfall since 1995 was 2700mm (106.3”) and the lowest 1100mm (43.3”). A major contributor to soil moisture is the low evaporation rates during Autumn and Winter and the nature of the soil. The soil is deep with almost no rocks and is derived from metamorphic rock (200 million year old) with some relatively recent (20 million year old) basalt influence helping to influence the fertility. Don’t hesitate to request information and plants from this list; however many won't be currently available.
